Little City, Huge Change – Colchester’s Sheet Recycling Program
TweetWhat could be the significance of fabric recycling
On May 1st, 2016 Colchester Quebec started a great brand new program. This program is aimed at limiting waste to be able to landfills; Colchester now has curb-side grab for textile waste. Why is this important In Nova scotia, we have a waste issue. We waste even more per-capita than our neighbours to the south. A whopping majority of our textiles end up in landfills every day, 30 days and year. Approximately 15% of our textile waste materials is recycled or reused. This results in massive amounts of fabric in our landfill that is put to better utilize, rather than making a chaos for the next generations to cope with. Taking control of the problem regarding waste now can save the spaces and places we love. Curb-side linen pick up is a great opportunity, not just for Colchester, but municipalities across Europe. It saves area in landfills and may even generate money for the municipality.
Garments waste piles up in a landfill. Merely 15% of clothing throughout North America is recycled or recycled.
How can it work
This program is very simple; in this county you have your regular spend, plastics go in one bag, paper inside another, and of course the green bin for compost. Let’s break it down a bit more, that is where this program becomes interesting.
Blue Bag # stone island enterprise florida 1:
This is your tote for paper goods. Things such as newspapers, writing paper, books, egg cell cartons and cardboard boxes go into this bag. The new exciting facet of this bag is always that textile waste will go in here. The old t-shirt you love and will never ever wear again on account of holes and oil stains, toss that in! The baby blanket that is splattered with stains, toss it in too! Shoes No issue! All of those beanie-boos and other stuffies your current growing children simply no long use Within it goes!  All of it can be welcome and acknowledged in this bag. There are a few exceptions: no damp, smelly or fatty items.
Blue Bag # 2:
This carrier is for your recyclable containers. This particular bag can take goods such as, pop bottles, tin cans, aluminum single use bake items, containers created from glass, plastic hand bags and pretty much everything plastic that that held a liquefied. A new addition to this specific bag is Styrofoam. One of the first municipalities to collect and recycle such products.
Garbage Hand bags:
Garbage works similar to other municipality. Your non-recyclable items go here. Things such as chocolate bar wrappers, k-cups, diapers, as well as other non-recyclable food packaging goes below. You are allowed to put out there one dark carrier of garbage pertaining to privacy and up to five clear bags involving garbage per selection.
Green Bin:
I really hope by now everyone is informed about the green bin. Your compost items visit here. Food waste, puppy waste, paper towels, make-up, and even wood shavings can be put with your green bin along with composted. The municipality collects the waste as well as gives out up to 100 kilo of compost for every family.
With programs like these already in existence, why usually are not more municipalities doing this The program is fairly easy to adapt to some other cities across North america. It saves funds, generates money, maintains the places we like to livable and helps keep functional items out of our landfills. Southern Ontario need to work to bring applications like this to the most of Canadians who live in that place. With space in a premium, and prime farmland disappearing, preserving as much waste as you possibly can should be a main emphasis.
Here is a video I ran across on the Colchester website in which explains how to dump recyclables and what happens to these people:

Another interesting thing I found on the website was a game that allows you to straighten out discarded items:
