Continuing our series of interviews with talented young photographers (to celebrate our Autumn/Winter ’15 design of photography), on this occasion we meet with professional photographer Sarah Brimley to discover just how she’s forging a career popular after assisting companies household names David Bailey along with Chris Floyd.

Where are you coming from, where do you live, how do you get started in photography
I’m originally from Woking in Surrey now live in South East Birmingham. I first got into digital photography because my dad is often a keen aviation professional photographer; on family holidays I’d personally always ask to try out with his 35mm motion picture camera.
What was the initial photo you remember taking
I undoubtedly can’t remember the exact picture, but I would threat a guess that it turned out of my parents or sister on holiday in France.
When did you realise you can become a full-time photographer
It wasn’t until I had previously done my A-Levels that we realised you could examine photography as a diploma. I guess it obtained me thinking about in which as being a career selection. I was already really interested in fashion magazines, however didn’t really think about who was truly taking the photographs included. Because I hadn’t done A-Levels inside art or digital photography either, I had to perform National Diploma inside Photography before going to School.
Tell us a bit more about your creative process;
There isn’t really a set approach I do things. Often I’ll literally have a aspiration and it will inspire myself to make a mood table and see if I can produce the idea into a account; other times when I am set a brief simply by my client, I enjoy bounce ideas back and forth between the other creatives mixed up in shoot, such as the Artwork Director, or usually my favourite make-up artist Lucy Gibson, that is a really good person for you to thrash an idea out with. I love to turn up on the day in the shoot with a good mind image of how I would like it to look. It doesn’t make any difference if it doesn’t end up stone island gilet seeking how I imagined, normally the initial idea is just stone island gilet a direction to start inside.
Digital or analogue
When money and time constraints weren’t an issue most of the time, I would 100% capture on film.
What equipment do you swear by
I couldn’t care a smaller amount about camera equipment, actually. I am far more directly into my lighting, as well as would love to invest in a number of sexy HMIs (Ed: that’s the Hydrargyrum medium-arc iodide lamp, for the acronym-spotters on the market).

Why don’t you consider photography obsesses you
I simply love that with any frozen moment of your time you can tell a narrative with emotions that could be interpreted in countless ways by the viewers. A good photograph holds my attention for a long time, i can find myself entirely wrapped up in the idea.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned about your build so far
That there is simply no right or wrong, and there will almost always be a mixture of people that enjoy or hate the identical image.
Do you have a images mentor
I have two: Chris Floyd and Brian Bailey. I assisted both of them for years, and bewteen barefoot and shoes have taught me essentially the most valuable lessons.
Which usually other photographers do you find inspiring
I am consistently discovering new photography enthusiasts I love, and will go via phases of being obsessed by one for quite a while. But the one wedding photographer I have consistently identified inspiration from can be Paolo Roversi.
Is there a particular picture that inspires an individual
For a photographer, that’s a bit like being asked to identify your favourite music or film – there’s a different answer for every diverse mood! I guess the classic fashion professional photographers of the mid Last century will always be up there given that they were the first to you must do everything, and didn’t have Illustrator so it had to be excellent on camera. The images of Jean Shrimpton by David Bailey are flawless.
What’s an appreciated recent shot
I must say i enjoyed photographing Oliver Cheshire pertaining to GQ Thailand recently (in fact the magazine is out now). I’m genuinely into blocked colour at the moment, so this azure jacket against the yellow-colored background definitely skims my boat!

What’s your better shot ever
I’m a bit of a harsh critic of my own work, therefore I’m normally more to the next shoot I’ve planned!
Who/what is your aspiration shot/subject
I would love to picture Kate Moss before she retires. I’ve observed her in action several times with David Bailey… and there’s definitely a reason the girl career has had these kinds of longevity.
What are anyone working on right now
I’ve got a couple of editorials planned that i’m pretty excited about. However mostly at the moment I’m focusing on networking along with potentially exploring shifting image to go together with my fashion perform.

I would describe my design as ‘less is more’.
