KCW interview: Jess from craftiness is just not optional
Hi there, it can be Audrey from Skirt Fixation, and from now on I have a real treat for you!  I had the distinction of interviewing Jess from Craftiness is not Optional about KCW, sewing and more.  Jess’s regular sewing is flawless, the girl photography minimalistic as well as stunning, and the girl blog just plain fun.  Okay, let’s get to the nutrients!

Granny Floral Norah Costume
When did you start off sewing your children’s clothes and why
I began sewing clothes for my children when I ended up being bored with embellishing onesies and producing bibs…it was to me, more difficult and challenging and I wanted to be challenged and see if I could do it! For a few years though, My spouse and i refused to make them clothes…it had been too hard. lol!

Just when was your first KCW and how that go
My initial KCW was in May of 2010! I’ve been involved since I think, the very beginning…our first KCW went well, too..I developed a lot of peasant tops as well as simple things but I was gaining confidence stitches clothes so I was happy with what I has been learning!

1. Aster Cardigan with sequin collar  2. Aztec art print Skater Dress  3. Gold Dot Pippa Peplum  4. Upcycled tee  5. mint/grey environmentally friendly point cardigan

What can you like the best with regards to joining in with KCW
My personal favorite thing about KCW is the friendship that forms among all the seamstresses! Also I enjoy seeing what they are almost all making and the motivation is off the maps!

How do you balance the work/family/sewing time
It’s hard. Period. We have naptime/quiet time in the afternoons though therefore i usually get a slice of time there to be effective. We put the young ladies down to bed in 7 also (whether they actually fall asleep then…properly that’s hit or miss), therefore i get evenings as well!
Well, I know I was certainly amazed at anything you churned out last time!

How do your children influence your sewing
I recognize their favorite colors along with patterns, so I think that they usually like a few things i make. (luckily!) Or perhaps, I’ll lay out many fabric choices for them so that they have a say in that. I admit I’m not really really one to allow them go crazy in a material shop and select something willy nilly…I do try and stay within my design and style aesthetic, but they deeply love to come shop in mom’s stash for any new top or perhaps dress!

5 and 10 Designs Shirtdress

Precisely what is your favorite thing you’ve ever before sewn for one of the kids

Probably one among my favorite things is this shirt dress…I love the idea, and Sadie wears this constantly….win-win!

Have you found on your own in the middle of a creative rut If yes, what do you do to get rid of it
Yes. On a regular basis, frustratingly. I usually go fabric shopping online. lol. New fabric usually makes me excited to stitch again!

Ooooh, good suggestion!  I’ll have to try that certain for sure!

1. deer Nessie top  Only two. chambray and mustard Norah dress  3. peasant top  Some. yellow circle skirt  Your five. Modern Meadow Geranium

What other creative pursuits do you like apart from sewing
I enjoy planning and placing on parties for my girls….baking…creating printables….photography…almost anything slightly creative….I’m inside!

Do you have any tips about achieving photographs that demonstrate off your sewing skills
I used to stress over having new photo locations each and every outfit, and while I think stone island junior knitwear there is a time and place just for fun location shoots, for that vast majority of my launches, I take them facing a plain white history. I feel like that permits the garment to really sparkle! and if the fabric is fabulous, it just helps it be POP! The build I use is a studio history stand, with seamless white cardstock, and these clips to hold it available. (I have a 4’x4′ piece of particle board I put within the paper so that it doesn’t wrinkle like crazy once the girls stand on that) I unroll the document every time we have a blast, and set it up in our sunroom, which gets ideal filtered light almost all day. I don’t have an elegant lens, just a 50mm (my camera body is quite nice, so I should really upgrade lol), nevertheless it works pretty well for me in this setup!

Wow, that was amazing!  I’m recognize I will be using people photo tips shortly.  Thanks for all your answers, Jess, this really is neat to get to realize you better.    I will be right after all your makes upon Kids Clothes Few days and Craftiness is not Optional.
